Mahogany Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2 Wooden Model
The Hawker Siddeley Nimrod was the first jet-powered maritime patrol aircraft in the world when it entered service with the RAF in 1969. Hawker Siddeley based the Nimrod's design on the Comet 4C civil airliner, providing the RAF with a maritime aircraft which could enter service quickly at low cost.
The MR1 and MR2 replaced the aging Avro Shackleton and were primarily used for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations. A small number of the R1 variant were used for intelligence gathering and an airborne early warning variant was also in development.
The RAF operated the Nimrod across the world, including the Falklands, the Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The Nimrod MRA4 project was controversially cancelled as part of defence cuts and all Nimrod variants had been retired by 2011.
Handcrafted from quality mahogany with a high luster varnish, this is a stylised desk-top model of a Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2, ideal for home or office.
