  • Nicknamed the Old Growler, the Avro Shackleton is a long-range martime patrol aircraft which was used by the Royal Air Force and South African Air Force (SAAF). Introduced in 1951, the Shackleton was developed throughout its operational history until it was finally retired in 1991.

     

    The Avro Shackleton was furnished with an extensive suite of electronic equipment in order to perform the anti-submarine warfare role. During its operation history the Shackleton also performed search and rescue (SAR) and airborne early warning (AEW) roles.

     

    Handcrafted from quality mahogany with a high luster varnish, this is a stylised desk-top model of an Avro Shackleton, ideal for home or office.
