Avro Vulcan XM603 Refurbishment - Phase 1 (1)

The Passage of Time: 1982 - 2016
The external appearance of XM603 gradually deteriorated, particularly after the 603 Club was disbanded in 2008. The subsequent closure of the airfield and sale of the Woodford site made for an uncertain future.
Fortunately, XM603 was retained and in 2013 was moved to the site of the new Avro Heritage Museum and plans for the restoration of the aircraft developed.
Vulcan B. Mk2 XM603 Returns to Woodford
After a successful career with several RAF squadrons, XM603 was secured and purchased on behalf of British Aerospace by Charles Masefield when the Vulcan aircraft were decommissioned.
XM603 was repainted in a white livery for the annual Woodford RAFA Airshow June 1982.
A Club was formed from retired employees and the aircraft was maintained in an operating condition until 2002.
