Avro Vulcan XM603 Refurbishment - Phase 1 (4)
Creating the Team
Although a significant number of the existing Museum Members would be involved additional resources were required and, by advertising on social media, the numbers were grown to allow the Project to proceed with volunteers available not only at weekends but throughout the week.
The completed tented structure was handed over on the 3rd June 2016 and work commenced by preparing the fin and upper wing surfaces.
The surfaces were pressure washed to remove moss and algae, followed by a "Wet' n 'Dry" rub down of the entire surface.
In an early boost to the Project, a 13 strong team of volunteers from Tarmac Tunstead Quarry managed to completely rub down the starboard wing in a one-day visit!
(Colour Photograph Top & Bottom Left) - Supports were placed on XM603's Wings to hold up the wide span roof.
The shrink-wrap extended to protect the underside too. A ground frame was put in place for later work and nine 1-ton water butts were placed to stop the whole structure blowing away.
