Hyde Group's History

1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s 2010s

Founded in 1967 as Hyde Tool, the company began by manufacturing press and mould tools in Tameside Mill in Dukinfield, Cheshire. By the 1970s it started its now over 50-year tenure in the aerospace industry, initially designing and manufacturing wing assembly handling jigs for the Airbus A300; with Hyde Industrial Holdings Limited established in 1974 as its new management body.

The 1980s delivered exciting international expansion and exploration into the space and transportation sectors. Six companies are created, with Hyde Group Limited founded in 1981 to oversee a major project in the manufacture management of the assembly fixtures and component parts of the leading edge and flap track fairings for the Fokker F100 regional jet airliner.

As the Fokker F100 project thrived, Hyde Aero Products division was formed in 1991, with six companies created throughout the rest of the decade. The Group's reputation expanded parallel to its client base as it worked with British Aerospace, Boeing, Airbus Industrie, Rolls-Royce and Bombardier Learjet. Moreover, Hyde Group continued establishing its longstanding relationship with Lockheed Martin with the provision of design, tooling and manufacture solutions for the F-22 Raptor tactical stealth fighter.

The new millennium brought a significant boost in its capabilities. Hollygate Aircraft Components Limited was launched to support the cutting of the first chips on the BAE Systems' F-35 multi-role stealth combat aircraft. Hyde Group initiated its work on leading edge jigs and trailing edge jigs on the Airbus A400M aircraft, whilst in 2005 a specialised engineering division concentrates our design, structural and systems analysis, stress analysis and consultancy abilities.

Our diversification continues into the 2010s. Hyde Group Nuclear Limited provides packages of support to all areas of this growing sector. Our work in aerospace accelerated throughout the decade as we frequently supplied OEMs and Tier 1s with engineering solutions. For example, Hyde Group supported Airbus on the A330 NEO and A350 widebodies, as well as the Beluga XL aircraft. A lot of our work in aerospace took place right here at the AVRO Woodford site...
