Handley Page Victor (HP80) Conversion to K2 Tankers (1)

Handley Page had produced a feasibility study for a Victor K.2 Tanker in
1967, which the MoD had accepted, but Handley Page collapsed and
went into liquidation in Feb 1970 before a contract could be placed. The job of the K.2 conversions was instead given to Hawker Siddeley at
Woodford. The majority of aircraft arrived at Woodford from Radlett and
were stored around the airfield awaiting entry onto the production line.
Aircraft that were not required until later in the contract were stored in
Driclad Bags with internal dehumidification.

(3Nr Monochrome Photographs) - The Fuselage sections remained at Woodford whilst the Cockpit and Wing sections were taken to Chadderton for modification. Later Aircraft had their Cockpits taken to be modified at the Bitteswell Factory. The work was substantial, complete dismantling down to major assemblies for the removal of all bombing and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM)
equipment.
