Not long after the need arose to make the Nimrods capable of taking on fuel in flight the RAF also required more tanker aircraft to supplement the hard pressed Victor force operating intensively in
support of the Falkland Island Operations.
The idea of using Vulcans was discussed and the feasibility was established during the May Day weekend break.

(Colour Photograph Bottom Left) - Go ahead was given on Tuesday 23rd June 1982 and fifty days later the initial C(A) release to service was given and the first Vulcan K2 Tanker was delivered to the RAF at Waddington.
