BAE SYSTEMS Nimrod MRA4 -Electronic Support & Counter Measures

The most significant item of new equipment was the Israeli Elta EL/L-8300UK Electronic Support Measures (ESM) suite. This comprehensive system identified and classified an extensive range of radars carried by ships or aircraft and was one of a number of items of equipment carried that gave significant Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) capability.

Thales Vicon 78 Chaff & Flare Systems dispensed expendable chaff and flare payloads in programmed sequences to disrupt the tracking of hostile Infra-Red Missiles.
