FLIGHT TESTING At Woodford

Engineers prepare the Avro Athena Advanced Trainer for flight.

GROUND CONTROL

Woodford Radio Station 'Thistle' is always manned when aircraft are on test.
Trained observers accompany our test pilots. On the extreme right a technician of the Flight Test Department hands in his report.

Back from tests at 20,000 feet, this Avro Tudor has ranged far over the British Isles on a pressurised flight of more than 5 hours duration. With Modern long range aircraft flight trials of this nature have become routine tasks.

Complete engine overhauls are carried out in this workshop at Bracebridge Heath.

In the Instrument Test House all kinds of apparatus can be repaired or adjusted.


AVRO SERVICING
Bracebridge Heath and Langar

Fully equipped AVRO Servicing Stations, with skilled personnel capable of carrying out any type of repair or overhaul, are available to all aircraft operators. In addition a Technical Services Department is ready to give advice or send qualified engineers to deal with maintenance queries on the spot.

Light, heat and power. The Maintenance Department never stops work.

Reserve power of 500 kilowatts is obtained from this steam driven alternator.

In the Standards Room, inspection gouges and apparatus are maintained at the highest possible degree of accuracy.

Modern kitchens and canteens provide excellent inexpensive meals for nearly 10,000 employees.

The door of the Aviation Industry is opened to these youthful engineers in the classroom of the Avro School.

Twenty lines at Failsworth 2020 handle some 110,000 calls a year.

The health of every Avro employee is the concern of a staff doctor and qualified nurses.
