Avro Lancaster - Women at War (3)

Women were involved at every stage of the Lancaster Wing and Fuselage Major Assembly process.

In these photographs we see the main wing structure being assembled in its Jig, the skins being riveted and the application of the finished camouflage paint scheme.

The contribution of the women workforce to the Wartime Production of the Lancaster Aircraft at Chadderton cannot be underestimated.

Many of the women and their families continued to work and be associated with Avro and its successor companies right up to the Chadderton factory closure in 2012.
