AVRO HERITAGE MUSEUM

(Monochrome Photograph showing - A day's production at Woodford, 1942.)

Between the months of October 1941 and March 1945, a total of 4,040 Lancasters were assembled and flown at Woodford. The best week during this period was in June 1944, when 56 aircraft were delivered. The first production batch of 43 aircraft had originally
begun as Manchesters, but were completed as Lancasters by A.V. Roe & Co. Ltd. Deliveries commenced in October 1941 and were completed in March 1942.

In August 1943, there were three assembly lines; two for Chadderton (Oldham) manufactured components, and one for Metrovick (Trafford Park) machines. In the new assembly hall, the production tracks were each a quarter of a mile long, those concerned with Chadderton producing a total of 2,975 aircraft, with Metrovick's total being 1,065.
