The Avro Heritage Museum is now closed until at least 1st May 2020 as a direct response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. The decision was made in line with the latest advice from Public Heath England and the Government. Our priority has always been the health of our visitors and volunteers.
So what impact will this have on the Museum's future?
In 2015, when the Avro Heritage Museum opened, the trustees ring fenced an agreed sum for potential emergency use in the future. That money will cover the Museum's operating costs for one year and will be put to use during this period of closure.
The Museum is currently in the process of applying for accredited status, an exciting chapter in our history, and one which will lead to many opportunities. Work will continue behind the scenes on our application, with many volunteers working at home on the necessary processes.
Obviously the Coronavirus outbreak has cast doubt on the events we have planned for this year and we will monitor the situation closely. Please check our website and Facebook page for the latest information. Fortunately our headline event, the Avro Air Fair, does not take place until August and we will continue to press forward with our planning and preparations for this event.
In the meantime, this blog and our Facebook page will be regularly updated with posts about all things Avro. We'll make sure that we dig out plenty of interesting facts, photos and stories so that you get your regular Avro fix!
It is a difficult time for all but the Avro Heritage Museum has made huge strides since it first opened its doors less than 5 years ago. In that time, we have increased our collection from 1 to 7 cockpits, renovated an Avro Vulcan, held 3 hugely successful air fairs, organised numerous flypasts of iconic Avro aircraft, and much more besides!
But most of all, we have welcomed thousands of visitors and shared our passion with you. Thank you to each and every one of you for, without you, the Museum simply would not exist. So stay safe, keep in touch, and we hope to see you very soon!
From all the team at the Avro Heritage Museum
