The first Avro 671 Rota I (K4230) at Martlesham Heath, c. 1936

NOTES:

A Cievra C.30 A autogyro built under licence by Avro as the Rota 1. Autogyros are a cross between the aeroplane and the helicopter, with the rotor riven by the motion of the autogyro through the air, rather than by engine. The engine has a conventional propellor to drive the autogyro forward. It has the short take off and landing capability of a helicopter without the complexity, although it cannot hover or take off/land vertically. Several examples were equipped with floats and one with skis.
